Corrective Massage

Corrective massage utilizes a combination of myofascial release (aka neuromuscular release), and trigger point therapy to alleviate pain and tension as well as restore joint mobility.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps around all the muscles, joints, and organs in the body, holding them in place and providing structure. It also communicates neural signals, transmits force, and provides stability across muscle groups. Integrated Vitality uses myofascial release to treat associated connective tissue and muscles to unlock and equalize structural imbalances.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are often called “knots” in the muscles. Trigger point therapy is a modality for relieving them. Trigger points are often painful or sensitive when worked on, but the payoff is worth the momentary discomfort. Most aches and pains are direct results of one or more trigger points.

FASCIAL DISTORTION MODEL

FDM is a treatment model that specifically and systematically addresses any of six distinct types of distortion that may be present in the fascial tissue. This way of viewing an injury is consistently useful when determining a more customized and effective course of action.

INFRARED SAUNA

What is the difference between far infrared sauna and dry heat sauna?

An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses electromagnetic radiation from light to create heat. This radiation warms the air around you as well as warming you directly. A traditional dry sauna uses heaters to warm the air around you.

What is infrared/ far infrared?

Infrared refers to the invisible light waves beyond the red end of the visible light spectrum. Far infrared refers to the farthest end of the infrared spectrum with the longest thermal wavelengths.

What are the risks and benefits?

There are many claimed benefits that still need more research, so we’ll only list the solid benefits and updated the list as more evidence comes out. Far infrared therapy will provide:

  • Better sleep
  • Detoxification
  • Relief from sore muscles
  • Relief from arthritis and other joint pain
  • Improved metabolism
  • Improved mood
  • Restorative effects for skin

As far as risks, there are no reports of negative effects so far, beyond the cautions about any sauna experience. These include the possibilities of overheating, dehydrating, and interference with medication, as well as the potential danger for those who are pregnant, have heart disease, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, among others.

Deep Tissue

When most people think deep tissue massage, they think hard pressure massage. This is not exactly accurate, but it is often what they get. Deep tissue is simply working the muscles below the superficial muscles. It is often necessary when pain and dysfunction are present but it doesn’t always have to be as painful as many people expect or have experienced.
